If you've never had your coin collection evaluated for possible sale, this photo with its labels may help you to understand the process.
Customer "A" drove several hundred miles to the Naperville store. He presented this collection for appraisal and possible sale to the store owner. This collection belonged to his sister who has just entered a nursing home. He stated that she needed money to help with her monthly expenses. Her collection had been gathered across 40 years of her life and it was quite valuable.

The customer's sister kept an inventory list [ITEM "B"] naming each item and the prices she had paid many years ago. When offers are made to purchase the various collections, the customer remains in control and may choose to withdraw certain coins for later sale. In many cases, an offer is made to purchase the entire collection and if the customer accepts the offer, a check is written on the spot.
The coins stacked on the blue tray were lifted and counted from the black boxes [ITEM "C"]. Item "D" points to four additional boxes of packaged coins not yet opened for counting. A calculator sits beside the blue tray as well as a magnifying lens.
Items "E" and "F" are additional collections of foreign and US Mint Proof Sets of commerorative coins. Two items labelled "G" are reference tables, commonly known as "gray sheets" - a national standard that lists official dealer buying prices for specific coins.
